Eric Steenlage  |  MD
Dr. Steenlage is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine. He obtained his BS degree in microbiology from the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. During undergraduate college, he was awarded the Goldwater Congressional Scholarship and graduated with highest honors. He attended medical school at Yale University School of Medicine. While at Yale he completed his thesis studying the epidemiology of severe trauma injuries in Quito, Ecuador.
After graduating from Yale, Dr. Steenlage completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. During his residency, he helped provide medical coverage for the University of Kentucky SEC athletic teams, AHL professional hockey team, equestrian events, and several local high school teams. In addition, Dr. Steenlage completed a one-year fellowship specializing in Arthroscopic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the Humboldt University / Charite Hospital in Berlin, Germany. While there, he was a team physician for the champion Berlin Thunder of the NFL Europe football league. Dr. Steenlage also initiated and was involved in several research projects developing new knee surgical techniques, particularly involving ACL reconstruction, and holds patents on several knee ligament reconstruction devices. Dr. Steenlage remains active in ACL surgical research and serves as a co-editor of the Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery journal. Dr. Steenlage is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
